Leave a gift in your will

By leaving a gift to The Amber Foundation in your will, you will be helping to give young people a future for years to come.

Young people like Renee who arrived at Amber reeling after escaping an abusive relationship. Our staff supported her to come to terms with what happened to her and to learn to trust people again. Renee moved on to her own accommodation and a job in retail. This is what she said just after she moved on.

“…it was a great help having staff who take the time to sit down and listen to me when I was a bad place…if I hadn’t come to Amber I would probably be dead. I was rock bottom. It’s crazy how far you can come in a short space of time with the space, the time and the support from everyone here.”

We were there for Renee when she needed us most, but we can only do this thanks to the generosity of our supporters. If you decide to remember our cause in this way, thank you. By leaving a gift to Amber in your Will you will help us reach more young people like Renee not just survive the hard times but thrive in spite of them. We are hugely grateful for your support.

The Amber Foundation has a partnership with Kwil – the simplest way to write your will – to give our supporters the opportunity to write a legally binding will completely free. The process takes as little as 30 minutes online, and for your piece of mind all Kwil Wills come with free lifetime edits.

When completing the Will, you will be able to choose to leave a legacy donation to The Amber Foundation, if you would like. This is optional and there is no obligation to do this. Click here to start your online Will with Kwil now, or call their Will-writing experts free on 0800 061 4934 and quote code AMBER.

Other ways to leave a gift in your will

If you choose not to use Kwil, you can write your own will using these standard government instructions (Making a will: Overview - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk))

You can go through a solicitor if you need legal advice (use The Law Society’s official database to look for one).

A solicitor can help you think about who your executors and guardians should be and work out the value of your estate.

If you choose to leave a gift to The Amber Foundation when writing your Will, please ask your solicitor to use our full name and details (The Amber Foundation and charity number 1051388) to ensure we receive your generous donation.

What to leave in your will

When leaving a gift in your Will, you also need to consider what you would like to give. This could be:

  • A fixed amount
  • An item or property
  • A percentage of the value of your estate
  • What’s left after other gifts have been given out

Tax relief when you donate to charity in your Will

When you leave a donation to a charity in your Will, you are entitled to tax relief.

Your donation can:

  • Be taken off the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated
  • Reduce your overall Inheritance Tax rate, if at least 10% of your total estate is left to a charity or charities

What if I already have a Will?

If you already have a Will, but want to update it to add a gift to The Amber Foundation, you can make an official change called a codicil.

This is a simple amendment; a solicitor can help you with this. Find more information on codicils here (Making a will: Update your will - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
