Amber to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge

Amber to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge

We are thrilled to announce that Amber will be taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020. This is an annual match funding campaign which raises millions of pounds for good causes across the country. This year the campaign will kick off on 1st December (Giving Tuesday) at midday and will run until midday on 8th December. Every donation made via the Big Give will be doubled until we reach our target of £70,000.

The money raised will be spent on disadvantaged young people living at Amber centres in Surrey, Wiltshire and Devon. At Amber young people are not only provided with a safe place to live but also full support designed to help them identify what is holding them back so they can move on to bright independent futures.

Across the country 110,000 young people* are either homeless or at risk of becoming so and the pandemic is only making things more and more challenging.

One of the young people we have supported this year is Hayden, who is now living in his own flat and completing construction skills training. He has come such a long way after arriving at Amber last year straight from prison with one change of clothes and his release papers.

While at Amber he gained a range of qualifications, passed his driving theory test and was able to reconcile with his family including his young daughter who he now sees regularly.

This is what he said just after leaving Amber

“To be honest I’m the happiest I’ve been in a very long time and I know I’ve got the staff at Amber to thank for that. I’ll never forget what they have done for me.”

Stephen Ballantyne, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Amber said

“Coronavirus and the resultant lockdown has meant that Amber’s work has never been more needed. Despite the challenges posed we have stayed open throughout this year to remain a safe haven for disadvantaged young people who would otherwise have had nowhere safe to go and no one else to support them.” We are doing all that we can to help young people like Hayden through this incredibly challenging time so are really pleased to be part of the Big Give campaign again. We recognise this has been a tough year for everyone but are asking our supporters to donate as much as they can and see their donation doubled.”

So remember for one week from midday on Tue 1st December until midday 8th December, all donations given through the Big Give website to Amber will be doubled.

One Donation, Twice the Impact.
