The past year has been a tough one for everyone. Covid has impacted and restricted our lives in more ways than we could have imagined and the young people Amber support’s have been amongst the hardest hit.
Youth homelessness and unemployment are both rising at alarming rates. 1 in 4 young people have struggled with their mental health and been left ‘unable to cope.’ A combination of job losses and the breakdown of family relationships are making more young people homeless. The impact on their immediate welfare and long term prospects are huge.
Amber’s supported living centres in Wiltshire, Surrey and Devon have remained open throughout the pandemic. Our centres provide not only a temporary place to call home, but also the structure and support needed for young people to re-build their lives.
Stephen Ballantyne, Head of Fundraising at Amber says “keeping our centres open over the last year has been a challenge, as costs have skyrocketed on PPE, sanitation measures and testing kits, while community fundraising has taken a hit.
“So today (4th March) we are launching our first ever Crowdfunder to give our funds a much needed boost so we can continue to be there for young people who need us most. For every £30 we raise we can give a young person a safe place for a night and the chance to turn their lives around for good. We appreciate times are hard but anything our supporters can spare will be hugely appreciated.”
