Award Time for Farm Place

At the beginning of February we were honoured to receive not one but two awards at our supported housing centre in Surrey, Farm Place.

The awards from HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey Michael More-Molyneux and the High Sheriff of Surrey, Dr Julie Llewelyn were in recognition for our outstanding support to young people facing homelessness during the pandemic.

HHJ Robert Fraser MVO, Deputy Lieutenant Surrey who presented the Lord Lieutenant’s Award said it was

“…hugely well-deserved and recognition of all that you do. I know only too well how vital Amber is to those in critical need of a home and support; you deliver that in spades”

Louise Cheung, Fundraising Manager for Farm Place said the whole team are “thrilled to receive these two awards. It is lovely to have the team’s hard work and dedication to young people recognised in this way.”

Despite the challenges of the pandemic we have continued to provide vital housing and full support to young people who would otherwise have been homeless and completely unsupported.  The staff at all our centres worked hard to maintain the Amber development programme throughout the pandemic.

One of the young people supported by Amber during the pandemic was Dan. Lockdown was the last straw for Dan who could have ended up street homeless without a place to stay at Amber. Dan spent just over a year with us and moved on to a job and a room in a shared house. This is what he said before he left.

“I don’t know where I’d be without this place. Things had got really bad before I arrived. I was really at a crossroads but I feel I chose the right path when I made the decision to come to Amber.”
